2) CONTACT THE MAYOR'S OFFICE:

In July 2004, Mayor Miller voted in favour of the EUCAN pilot project. In his speech at Council, Miller put forward some very misleading statements about the proposal. He told City Council that the EcoMupis will actually reduce advertising in Toronto (please read our response to this myth on the Monster homepage.) He also stated that the City is obligated to continue to have garbage bins with ads on them and are not legally in a position to tender new contracts. The truth is that the City is only obligated to maintain the number of OMG bins that are currently on the streets. Nothing prevents the City from installing new bins, without advertising, through an open tender process. It was very disappointing to see the Mayor support a proposal that is anti-green and anti-public space.
