Excellent visibility, illuminated, facing road traffic and pedestrians, street level, hard to ignore, cheap purchase of prime public space. Good job.
Functionality
Virtually useless as a garbage can. Hard to identify, poorly placed, poorly labeled, no door on garbage can, open seams for garbage to fall through, etc...
Air PollutionWho's ever heard of an electric garbage can? Using Toronto's hydro grid to power illuminated ads is irresponsible. Haven't you heard about Smog Days? We are happy to see that you have installed "solar" and "wind-powered" bins. However, we are skeptical that they actually work.
SafetyThe bins are much too high. They block important sightlines for cyclists, pedestrians and drivers, especially near intersections. Many of the bins, placed on angle so that the ads face drivers, are blocking pedestrian space and violate the City's own Accessibility Guidelines.
RecyclingPoor placement of bins and foolish labeling of receptacles are sure to increase contamination of waste and recycling materials. A step backwards for Toronto's waste reduction targets. Also, trying to reduce waste by promoting more over-consumption seems a little hypocritical. Lastly, where do all the seven-foot plastic ads go each time you re-print them? Much more effort required.
CapacityEucan claims the new bins have more capacity for garbage and recyclables. This is false. Because of the design and placement of most of the bins, only half of the capacity is available to use. You are a chronic underachiever. Very disappointing.
Community Consultation![]()
Pilot project is misleading. One of the most controversial elements of the project is the seven-foot tall illuminated ads, yet these were conveniently left off the pilot. Please work on your communication skills and honesty in the classroom.
CommentsA visual bully. Doesn't get along well with other people on the street. Not sure how you got accepted into this class. Sadly, we will be requesting that you leave the school. Your garbage can is truly garbage.
