Can we have some more time?

One of the only useful functions of the old 'Metron' screens was the clock!! With bright red numbers almost 5 inches high, the time could be seen from either end of the platform.

Today, as more and more people depend on cell phone clocks instead of watches, the Metron clocks have become invaluable since many cellphone clocks don't work underground!

Well say goodbye to rider-friendly clocks in the TTC. Because the new screens require so much space for video advertising, that the clock has been shrunken down to a fraction of its original size. When the Pilot Project rolled out, the screens had a clock that was only 7 square inches (a 91% reduction from the original 84 square inches!) You had to walk right up to a OneSTOP video screen to find out the time.

Within days of launching this webpage, OneSTOP responded by increasing the clock to 21 square inches. It's an improvement, but it's still less than a quarter of what we had before. Once again, the interest of the advertisers come before the needs of the rider.

When the TTC asked riders what they wanted to see on the screen, the top priority was the digital clock. Take a look at how much priority was given to the clock when it came to designing the screen:
