"In
my view, the proposed new platform video screens are inadequate if installed
as per the 'pilots'.....I am not sure just who did our evaluation and
what format was used but I submit that given the wave of criticism that
I have received about the pilot project, we have a responsibility to ensure
that these are done right." ~ TTC Chair Howard Moscoe
in a letter to the TTC Commissioners, April 5th.
At the April
6 TTC meeting, Moscoe requested that the vote be delayed until May 11th.
Commissioner Adam Giambrone moved three
motions from the Toronto Public Space Committee and all three were
adopted by the TTC.

The
TTC will vote on Wednesday May
11 whether to "roll out" the video advertising screens into
all stations.
After a very brief pilot project, TTC staff have written an unbelievable
report (based on two "surveys") that states:
• There is no opposition to the expansion of the new Platform Video
Screens throughout the system.
• 97% of riders like the new platform screens better than the existing
"Metron" units.
"No
opposition"? How insulting, considering over 400 people have taken
the time to e-mail the TTC Commissioners to say "No" to video
advertising on the TTC. Eye magazine has published a full page editorial
criticising the project and if you look closer at their own survey, over
78% said they don't want to see ads on the screens!
