Exhibition Launch Recap

On July 10th, 2025, the Toronto Public Space Committee (TPSC) and Cyan Station launched the TO the Loo! Toronto Toilet Design Challenge Exhibition at 401 Richmond. The exhibition featured the competition’s winners and selected entries that creatively reflected the themes of the competition. The launch event included speeches from the TPSC organizing team and competition jury, who all spoke about the importance of public washroom infrastructure and the need to design inclusive and accessible facilities across the city.
The event wrapped up with an announcement of the competition’s winning teams. Best overall design was awarded to Alea Reid and Petra Matar from Hamilton based studio DPAI for "Mycomorph." Runners up included Matt Hagen from Toronto’s YIMBY Studio for "Loopty Loo" and from the UK, Hugh Broughton Architects for "The Toronto Toilet."
Attendees at the launch event also voted for a People’s Choice award which was presented to Nitesh Salwan and Laura Randall for their design “In Passing.” Thank you to everyone who came out to see the exhibition, who chatted with us, and who joined us in celebrating the conclusion of such an exciting competition!
The exhibition ran from July 10th to August 30th, 2025 at 401 Richmond in Toronto. You can check out the winning entries here.
